Full on Weekend
Posted by finch | Filed under Uncategorized
What a full on weekend I just had! Amber and I got back from a week of surfing in Morro Bay on Wednesday with just enough time to get a little warm up and altitude adjustments for the races over the weekend. I got suckered into a 8 mile SUP race, so I did a lap around Donner lake which is 7 miles, but had a full on head wind coming back. At times I was paddling as hard as I could and as I looked at the shore I was actually loosing ground. But knowing I finished that paddle around the lake really helped me finish the 8 mile race on Saturday when I was completely exhausted. The river was raging so that afternoon we took the tubes down the Truckee in the snow runoff. River is so fun and no better way to do it then Tubin! Amber wasn’t to into it at first because of the cold and the speed of the water, but she was grinnin ear to ear afterwards.
That was Saturday; Sunday Amber suckered me into doing a 13-mile bike race while she raced 26 miles. Yeah, she’s crazy. This is on a mountain bike up and down steep hills. I am not sure if you are noticing a trend, but it doesn’t take much to sucker me into things. I actually had a blast in the race. Trail was supper fun and it was a beautiful day. Check out the photos.

Powder in May
Posted by finch | Filed under Uncategorized
Hard to believe there is still snow falling this late in May, but Tahoe just seems it can’t get enough winter. Well here was a pow day from last week. Pretty good snow too, but avi danger was a little sketchy and the wind definitely moved the snow around a little bit. But I can’t remember the last time I rode powder in May!

On flight over, Andy won a halway guessing contest, and got an IZ cd, so we knew it was going to be a good trip! Arrived and instantly loved the warm, tropical air. Picked up rental, ate at a yummy burrito placed called Mermaids and went to Adams. He moved out of his little studio and let us stay there. Chased the sun a few days down to PoiPu and Koola (where there was epic snorkeling and you could feed the fish) Went to Adams Friend (tom and Broman) engagement party where we met a lot of his friends and Andy played his violin with Adam. Everyone was really friendly and made us feel like old time friends, Tom (guido) and Sharky would call every day to see what we were doing! We got to check out The guy who owns pixar films house where tom was working. Absolutely beautiful with intriquite wood work and a cool shower waterfall and hottub overlooking the ocean. One day had a muddy offroad trip to Pau Hali and camped out for the night. Private beach where Andy went and surfed in the morn and I ran to the end of the beach and back, which was much further than it looked! And than when packing the car back up, I found a Cane spider the size of my fist loose in our car. Andy tried to kill it with a machete, but it climbed under the glovebox. So for the rest of the day, I rode with my feet propped up, paranoid he would come out and attack me. On our drive back we stopped at Waiamae canyon and did a quick hike along a ridge looking down into the mini grand canyon. Spent another day hiking about 6-7 miles out on the Napali coastal hike. Me and Andy were both really sore after that one., but had incredible views along the coast looking way down at the water. Did one morning kayaking out on the Wailue river to the secret falls hike. Which wasn’t so secret, because we rolled up to about 15 other kayaks parked on the shore and lots of other tourist hiking out and back,. It was a fun trail and super slick and me and Andy were booking it barefoot. The waterfall was pretty and had a nice swimming hole. Our favorite beach that we spent time at was Secrets. It had a nice walk out, to the end (3rd beach) and a mellow sandy beach break that was great for me to learn on. We spent the last day there, pretty much to ourselves because it was a little overcast. So we surfed and waited for the sun to come out. I got a bad front wedgie from fallin on a wave and than there was a slight spot of sunshine on the beach and so Andy said “Sun of the Beach” and I said “sun of a beach, I just got a fwedgy” we thought that was pretty funny! Ate a lot of yummy pineapple, papaya and coconut, soo good right off the trees! the mountains there are gorgeous and lush and The Island definitely stood up to the reputation of being “the garden island”. I’m sure and hope that we will be back soon!
